How it works

In 2025, we introduced the She Evolves School Competition, which invites students to create green spaces of reflection and explain, in their own words, what caring for their living environment means for their school and community.

Plants and trees are supplied by the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment and Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo.

01
Design it
Students plan a green space of reflection somewhere on the school grounds.
02
Plant it
Trees and plants are supplied; the students do the planting themselves.
03
Care for it
The school takes responsibility for watering and keeping the space alive.
04
Grow with it
Students write what caring for their living environment means for their school and community. Those words are the entry.
