Privacy Policy & POPIA

She Evolves operates under SEED Community, a registered nonprofit organisation based in South Africa. SEED Community is the responsible party for the personal information collected through this website, and our Information Officer can be reached at privacy@sheevolves.world.

We collect only what a form asks for. When you send us a message: your name, email address and what you write. When you submit a story: your name or chosen nickname, your age, your email address, the topic and the story itself. When you apply to be a Change Maker: your name, town, email address, WhatsApp number and your reasons for applying. When you donate: your name, email address, donation amount and frequency; card details are handled by our payment provider and never reach our servers.

To answer your message, to moderate and publish your story with your permission, to assess your application and contact you about it, to process your donation and issue a receipt, and to send you the quarterly donor report if you have asked for it. We do not use your information for anything else, and we do not sell it or share it for marketing.

Much of our community is under 18. POPIA treats the personal information of a child as requiring the consent of a competent person — a parent or legal guardian. Before we publish a story from anyone under 18, we contact them and obtain that consent in writing. A story we cannot obtain consent for is never published, and is deleted from our records.

You choose how you appear. A story can be published under your first name, a nickname, or with no name at all. Your email address and age are never published. Nothing you send us is shared outside She Evolves without asking you first, and you can ask us to take a published story down at any time.

Messages and applications are kept while we are dealing with them and for a period afterwards. Published stories are kept while they remain on the site. Donation records are kept for as long as South African tax and accounting law requires. Submissions we do not publish are deleted.

Our moderators and programme staff. Our website host, our email provider, our forms provider and our payment provider process information on our behalf under agreement. We may share information with our funders or partners only in aggregate, never in a form that identifies you.

Under POPIA you may ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, object to how we use it, and complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa. Write to privacy@sheevolves.world and we will respond within a reasonable period.

This site uses only what it needs to work. If we add analytics, we will say so here, name the provider, and ask for your agreement before any non-essential cookie is set.
