The Sum Of Thee

The Sum Of Thee

In the silence, where shadows drift,
In shock, the road I walk I cannot lift,
Each step a weight, each breath a sigh,
Chasing impenetrable shadows I cannot deny.

The looped-echoes of a past mistake
Whisper softly, making my soul shake,
A thick chain of guilt, a thread of shame,
Binding me to a particular prehistoric blame.

I glance in mirrors, but do not see me,
Only fragments, half-hiding, half-free.
What am I, if I’m not the sum of Thee?
Of all the things, if at all, let it be “We”.

Each choice a thread, each word a stone,
Building solid walls that leave me alone.
Trapped in a prison of my own making,
Wishing, hoping, for some breaking.

But where’s the key? Where’s the door?
Or is this ponderous weight something more?
The mind ponders if, beyond the torturous pain,
There’s a picturesque place, where I can reclaim.
