My Scars, My Trophies..

When the world sees delay,
I see a school of thought,
A university of wisdom,
Years of occurrences,
A master graduate in the art of life’s experiences.

When the world sees failure,
I see a student in the school of resilience,
Against all odds, a much-needed foe
Who becomes a friend of many teachings.
As they say, “Failure is simply an opportunity
To begin again, this time more intelligently.”

When people see denial,
I see grace, I see protection,
A heavenly judiciary system,
Letting in only as much as my soul can handle at a time.
Yes, hope deferred makes the heart sick,
But when the desire comes, it is a tree of life.

When people see rejection,
I see a fueling engine in pursuit of success,
Rekindling the deep-seated passion to succeed,
Unlocking the giant within.

When people see a past full of mistakes,
I see a survivor, I see a conqueror,
I see a warrior, heroes made in the battlefield.

When the world sees brokenness,
I see insurmountable strength,
I see beauty that says, “I am not perfect,
Yet I can hold water, I can hold substance.”
Because many are strong at the broken places.

When you see scars,
Know they are my trophies,
I am a champion, I am a victor,
My scars, my trophies.
